Why you shouldn’t wash your hair before your appointment

No need to apologize for that slept in, fully styled, or just-from-the-gym hair! We’re stylists who work on hair of all kinds and in all conditions. So trust us when we say it’s okay to come in with hair that’s a little lived in. Ok, there is a limit to how many days you can go without shampooing, but you should try NOT to shampoo your hair the day of your salon visit. Save yourself the time and don’t waste your shampoo and conditioner when we’re just going to give you a relaxing wash anyway!

We love to see you when your hair is styled the way you would normally wear it. This helps us determine any adjustments that need to be made to the shape or texture. It also helps us see the shape/texture you feel most comfortable wearing just in case you are looking for a new length and style. Are you a curly girl? Don’t worry about straightening your hair unless it’s your everyday style. If you sometimes wear your hair curly or wavy, skip the straightening! We like to see how your hair lays naturally.

Believe it or not, “dirty hair” makes it easier for your stylist to place foils in your hair. The grittiness of hair product keeps foils from sliding while natural oils help protect your scalp from possible irritation during full head color processes.

  • If you must wash or rinse your hair just prior to your visit, please have it fully dried before arriving. This will save your stylist that additional time as we can’t apply color to wet or damp hair.
  • The only time you must wash before a color is if you’ve swam in chlorine on the day of your appointment. Chlorine is a chemical that makes the final color results unpredictable.

Never wash the day of! You’re going to need volume as a good base. Best thing to do:

  1. Wash the night before.
  2. Apply Aveda bodifying/volumizing products such as Pure Abundance Style Prep and add a layer of Phomollient or Volumizing Tonic. Make sure to apply at the root for extra boost!
  3. Blow-dry on *warm heat (hot will blast out the volume) with your hair flipped to the opposite side it will fall naturally.

We hope this answers all of your questions and gives you the best results for any appointment!

Have more questions? We’d love to hear from you! Contact us and we’ll get back to you a.s.a.p.
